Here is another passage from The Chronicle of Lord Nobunaga that took place in 1579.
(p. 325) "On the 4th of the Ninth Month, Hashiba Chikuzen no Kami Hideyoshi came to Azuchi from Harima Province. He reported having reached an agreement with Ukita of Bizen regarding the terms of their pardon and asked Nobunaga to issue a vermilion-seal letter to them. But Nobunaga said that it was miscreant of Hideyoshi to make a deal with the enemy without asking for instructions first, and sent him flying back to Harima."
