 Link: Https://www.chunichi.co.jp/article/206681

There has been big news regarding Komaki Castle regarding its walls, cobblestones, and megalithic rocks.  It seems that there was a garden and it was older than originally thought.  Komaki Castle, built by Nobunaga in 1563 has been in the news recently to its recent discoveries.  Discoveries such as more stone being used, various entrances to the castle, a theory that Komaki was a dry run for Azuchi.  Komaki Castle was almost a residence in the middle of clouds.  According to the article, the stones and garden were older than the ones used in Gifu.

English Sekigahara Video

Here is a brief three part series on the Battle of Sekigahara hosted by Chris Glenn.  I have worked with Chris the past ten years or so doing projects related to Nobunaga.  As for Sekigahara, he knows what he is talking about. Outside the late Tony Bryant, he is probably the one to go to in English on Sekigahara.  The new Sekigahara Museum is the backdrop to the start of the video and then spreads out to the battlefield.  As a word of caution, when Chris mentions the number of samurai on the battlefield, one must remember there were more foot soldiers than than samurai.  This was always the case. Outside of that, the video is great.

Nobunaga Comes To Life

Here is a great video showing Nobunaga, Ieyasu, Hideyoshi, and Akechi Mitsuhide back to life by using modern facial recognition.  Using paintings from the past and combining modern computer technology brings Nobunaga back to life. To be honest, Nobunaga looks the best out of the four.

Honnoji Spear

A spear that was supposed to be used by Yasuda Kunitsugu (1556-97) during the Honnoji Rebellion is on display at Karatsu Castle.  Yasuda Kunitsugu was from Mino and served under Akechi Mitsuhide. He was known to have the first chance to attack Nobunaga at the Honnoji. Kirin ga Kuru drama has sparked interest about the relationship between Mitsuhide, Nobunaga, and the Honnoji. Interesting for sure and it definitely makes a good conversation with historians.

Nobunaga Meme

Here is a good one.  Civil War General Tecumseh Sherman and Nobunaga.  You are damn right war is hell!  Sherman was known to burn down Atlanta, while Nobunaga was known for the slaughter at Mt. Hiei and the cleansing of Nagashima and Echizen.

Okehazama Movie Update

Big news regarding the Fuji TV Okehazama movie.  It will be aired on March 26th.  This is great news.  Ebizo Ichikawa as Nobunaga looks great.  Again, this is not a theater based film, but a television series.  Still, I am hopeful for the movie.

New Discovery At Gifu Castle

Gifu Castle has been in the news of late due to its new discovery.  The Ichinomon gate that was supposedly built by Nobunaga, is now highly to believed to be built by Saito Dosan due to its structure.  The technique that was used to build the Ichinomon was similar to that of Oga Castle in Yamagata City, Gifu Prefecture.  The Toki family never resided at Gifu Castle.  Since the Toki family and Dosan lived during the same era, it is possible that Dosan built the Ichinomon gate at Gifu Castle.

Battle of Ino Map

Here is a map of the Battle of Ino which took place in 1556.  Nobunaga easily defeated his younger brother Nobuyuki even though he was outnumbered 2 to 1.  The map has all the forts and castles.  Sakuma Morishige's Nazuka fort is listed as well as Nobuyuki's Suemori Castle.  The map also shows where Nobuyuki's advanced and retreated.  The Battle of Ino was an important victory for Nobunaga as he inched closer to unify Owari.
