Anegawa Memorial

This past weekend there was a memorial service for those who died at the Battle of Anegawa 1570.  The combined forces of Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu defeated the armies of Azai Nagamasa and Asakura Kagetake.  Nobunaga's troops were placed near Nomura while Ieyasu's at Mita.  At the memorial service, there were prayers and incense offerings near the war dead landmark near Nomura bridge.

Unesco Worthy?

Is Ota Gyuichi's Shincho-Ko ki UNESCO worthy?  Well, some people think so and there is a push to have The Chronicle of Lord Nobunaga to have Unesco merit.

I will be honest with you, in my own opinion, not yet.  For those who are making the push, go for it.

Okehazama Population

About three years ago I wrote a post about the birth of Okehazama area.  Now I received some additional information on the area during the time of the battle (Okehazama 1560).  Earlier this week I watched a DVD lecture given by Mr. Okehazama (Wataru Kajino) Okehazama no Rekishi.  Mr. Okehazama gave the lecture on April 19th, 2015.  Here is the data: During the time of the battle, there was about 15-20 households in the area with a population of 100.  Not many dwellings, small population.

The Other Nobunaga Bell

I lived in Gifu for about a year and make return trips regularly to study up Nobunaga's career.  New things always come up such as archaeological finds or new documents.  This picture above is the Nobunaga bell at Entokuji Temple.  However, I recently discovered there is another Nobunaga bell not far away from Entokuji.  The other bell is located at Honseiji Temple in Gifu.  This is new to me and excited to learn something new about the Uesama.  Link: http://jodo.jp/25-001/

2015 Azuchi Matsuri

The 2015 Azuchi Matsuri was held over the weekend near Azuchi Castle.  There was a parade with the Uesama leading people dressed in Sengoku costumes, a matchlock rifle squad and the like.  During my trip back to Japan last month, I managed to visit Azuchi and saw the 15 minute movie at the Nobunaga museum.  The movie with Nobunaga, carpenter Okabe Matazaemon, and Luis Frois explained Azuchi Castle in its full glory.

2015 Okehazama Report

I am finally back in San Diego after spending almost three weeks in Japan.  For those who want to know, the 2015 Arimatsu Okehazama festival was a huge success.  I was able to participate in the military parade due to Mr. Yukio Kajino and Hideyasu.  It was a blast even though the weather was very hot that day.

There was a ceremony to start the day with Yoshimoto's grave.  About more than 40 people participated in this event.  Afterwards there were many booths with maps an relics related to the battle as well as a tour of the battlefield.  Mr. Okehazama (Wataru Kajino) spoke at Chofukuji Temple in great detail about the Battle of Okehazama.  In the end, it was a great experience and would love to participate again in the near future.
