Honnoji Restaurant I

The Nobunaga restaurant near the Honnoji has finally opened.  Here is the link with the full menu (with pictures) and prices.  http://www.shinchou-saryou.jp/restaurant/  The Tsukemono (pickled vegetable) set is one of the more cheaper items on the menu besides the Nobunaga Curry and Oyakodon.  They do serve sweets such as wagashi and a bowl of matcha.

My main concern is that you have to make a reservation for the big one, Nobunaga's meal.  The above photo is what Nobunaga probably had for his last supper before he died.  The bento box was sold only in the Nagoya area a few years ago.  If you look at the picture, what he ate was very healthy.  I do plan to visit the Nobunaga restaurant later this year while in Kyoto. Besides, there is a nice art gallery and and set up is very relaxing and classy.

I have to make reservations? For the restaurant or just for the meal?

Reservation, you say? Just for the food set or the restaurant itself? I want to go there.

You have to make a reservation for the big meal, the last supper. However as for the Nobunaga Curry, Pickled vegetable teishoku, and others, no reservation is required. Please go and let know how it went.

So I went there at night and the only menu available for dinner was the Black and Red kaiseki sets.

None of us could speak Japanese so it was quite a hassle trying to order food.

The staff there said that the restaurant was at the site of the original Honno-ji, is that true? I don't know where the old Honno-ji site was or what it looked like, so I just went with what the people there said.

The food was good, though. I also like the place. I hope to be able to visit there in daytime next time so I can order the Nobunaga curry.

Awesome!

Yes, the restaurant is at the old/original Honnoji where Nobunaga died. There is just a plaque and a landmark, and that is it.

The modern Honnoji is located in the heart of the Teramachi shopping district. The modern Honnoji Temple does have a museum and it is worth it to check it out.

Glad to hear the food was good. That is good news.

If you continue to use Teramachi street going north, you can visit Amidaji Temple. It supposed to have Nobunaga's body. It is a very long walk.

One of the big mysteries that has not been solved is where is Nobunaga's body? Nobody knows to this date and I think nobody will ever know.

Thank for for sharing your experiences at the Honnoji restaurant.

Ah yes, I did visit the current Honnoji. It was raining so I couldn't get good pictures and I cannot read Japanese so I have no idea what the signs and texts on the monuments say. I also would have loved to be able to read Nobunaga and his son's letters in the museum...

It has been awhile since I have visited the museum. Plan to visit the museum again in the fall. Loved the armor when you enter the museum.

Oh yes, the armour was awesome! I loved the small dolls in the display case too. Those are Nobunaga, Hideyoshi, and Ieyasu, if I read the kanji right. I can only read "Nobunaga". I don't really remember Hideyoshi or Ieyasu.

Ieyasu and Hideyoshi was in the display case if I can remember. The museum, even though it is small, does have some interesting displays.

Yes, those display are awesome. The only downer is that I seriously don't understand a lick of Japanese. I really wanted to read the letters and poems.

It has been a long time since I have visited the Honnoji museum. If I can remember, there was a sword that belonged to Mori Ranmaru, Nobunaga's trusted page who died at the Honnoji.
