Winter 2023 Sokenin

I am in Japan at the moment there found a nice surprise.  Daitokuji-sokenin will have a special winter opening.  I plan to visit later this week. Sokenin is the home to a huge Nobunaga wooden statue, the grave of Nobunaga, as well as Nohime, Onabe no kata, and the Oda family.  If you can make it, by all means go.  Looking forward to the visit.

A Historical Experiment

Yesterday I finally was able to make a historical walk and it may prove the Battle of Okehazama was more expansive than originally thought.  I walk from Takaneyama (highest point on the battlefield) to the Toyoake City Okehazama Battlefield.  With traffic included, it took less than 10 minutes.  Both battlefields are extremely close to each other. Now imagine the time even shortens with the geography back then. Probably five minutes.  As I have written in the past, the Imagawa soldiers fleeing to Kutsukake Castle were probably killed off near the Toyoake City Battlefield.  The same goes for those trying to flee to Odaka, they were killed off near the Arimatsu Okehazama Battlefield. It proves my point both Toyoake City and Arimatsu Okehazama Battlefields are related and historical.  It is time to stop the history politics for once and for all.

Doan and Yoshitatsu Portraits

Finally back in Japan and I was Gifu for most of the day.  In front of Jozaiji Temple, it has an English explanation of the portraits of Dosan and Yoshitatsu.  It was well known that Nohime requested and donated Dosan's portrait.  As for Yoshitatsu's, that request came from Tatsuoki.

Full Legend and Butterfly Trailer

Here is the full trailer for the upcoming movie, The Legend & Butterfly. I am actually impressed so far and looking forward to seeing the movie.  From the trailer clip, it looks like the wedding between Nobunaga and Nohime, a bit of Okehazama, and construction of Azuchi Castle. Again, this is a movie trailer.

Falconry During The New Year

Here is a passage from the Chronicle of Lord Nobunaga on his short falconry trip in Mikawa. (p. 261) "On the 2nd of the First Month, Nobunaga returned to Azuchi Castle from hawking at Kira in Mikawa Province."

Happy New Year 2023

Akemashite Omedetou Gozaimasu!  Happy New Year to everyone.  This is from Kojima Goseki's Shincho-Ko ki, artwork manga. As always, this is from Nobunaga's famous 1574 New Year celebration at Gifu Castle when his horse guards were presented gold dusted skulls of Azai Nagamasa, Azai Hisamasa, and Asakura Yoshikage.  It must have scared the hell out of most people participating in this gruesome event.

If everything goes according to plan, I should be back in Japan in less than two weeks.  I am looking forward to show and tell travelers the Okehazama Battlefield giving my insight on the battle.
